Weather you are playing sports, exercising or just doing normal every day things you need to stay hydrated.

Every day people end up in the hospital due to dehydration. It is important to stay well hydrated (especially during the hotter months of the year) to maintain a healthy body.

Staying Hydrated

There are things that you should not drink to have a healthy hydrated body, such things include:

* Soda

* Energy drinks

* Sugary drinks such as kool aid

* Alcohol

* Coffee

Consuming these beverages in moderation is fine but too much can be bad for you. If you are going to be spending a lot of time outdoors (especially during the hotter days) it is very important to drink lots of water or sports drinks (but water is best), other wise you may become dehydrated.

If you think you may be dehydrated look for these symptoms:

* nausea

* Headache

* Flushed looking skin

* Lightheadedness (feeling like you might pass out)

* Lack of perspiration

If you notice any of these symptoms drink water right away. If your symptoms get too severe go to the hospital, you may need to be rehydrated with an I.V. Staying well hydrated is key to a healthy body. If you are an athlete or like to exercise a lot then you probably are staying hydrated because you know it’s important to do so.

Just think about it, our bodies are made of 75% water, if you are constantly sweating then it only makes sense to replace it. Even if your not outdoors or sweating you should constantly be drinking water. Without proper hydration your organs begin to suffer.

If you are wondering how much water you should be drinking throughout the day then let me help you with that. A lot of you have heard that you need to drink 8 8 ounce glasses a day but the truth is very few people need that much water. Most healthy people can maintain proper hydration just by simply having a glass of water whenever they are feeling thirsty. You do not need to over hydrate (which can also be bad for you), you know your body best so you should know when to grab a drink of water and when you can drink something else. The best way to determine if you are properly hydrated or not is by the color of your urine. If your urine is colorless (very light yellow or clear) then you are probably ok, but if your urine is a dark yellow or darker then grab a glass of water or two.

Remember water is essential to the human body, all of your organs and blood depend on it. So remember to stay properly hydrated drink water as often as you can or feel you need to. If you still have questions as to weather you are staying properly hydrated then ask your doctor, they can do test to check for you and can recommend a certain regimen for you to follow.
